Faculty Member, Division of Psychology
About
As a cognitive psychologist I’m interested in a broad range of cognitive phenomenon such as visual perception, categorisation, attention and memory. My two main fields of research are currently:
Visual Perception - Broadly speaking I am interested in the time course of visual perception. Specific research interests are
•Perceptual categorisation and attention
•Visual search
•Visual attention (control of and its effects)
•Object substitution masking
•Absolute identification
Consumer Psychology - I am interested in the cognitive aspects of consumer psychology. Specific interests include:
•Brand name effects
•Brand extensions
•Product relations and product categorisation
Other interests
Previously I have worked in the energy industry researching the factors influencing long term electricity and gas demand in the UK. I therefore have interests in energy policy, energy pricing, green energy use and the psychological aspects influencing energy usage.
I have also previously worked for Oxfam UK, researching the policies and practices of large pharmaceutical companies that impact on access to medicines in the developing world. I therefore have on-going interests in this field including enforcement of drug patents, drug pricing, availability of drugs in the developing world and how philanthropy by large companies is reported.
