About
I write about curiosity, attention, wonder, imagination, interpretation and resourcefulness. I sometimes make art out of the things I notice around me, though I tend to agree with Brian Eno that ‘if you don’t call it art, it’s usually more interesting’.
In this vein, my current research is directed through a project under the working title 'Scattered with Marvels': an investigation into the aesthetics of everyday life. It explores a fascination with urban surfaces and an attention to the 'microaesthetics' of the often overlooked. Much of this project will appear through my own imprint the Pam Flett Press. Elements of this work relate to an NTU research cluster entitled 'still unresolved', which focuses upon conceptions of uncertainty, irresolution and thinking space, but I am also interested in forms of research that develop independently from the university system.
I work with creative non-fiction as well as photography and the moving image, and I retain a fascination for artists books and independent publishing. My interests extend to the possibilities of creative resourcefulness and as a result I am a keen allotment grower.
I teach Fine Art at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and am involved in pedagogic research exploring the idea of an 'open curriculum', through which students negotiate their own study.
