About

I am currently a second year part-time doctoral student at Nottingham Trent University. I am interest in the discursive construction and negotiation of the contemporary masculine category 'metrosexual' and how this is achieved in relation to more 'hegemonic' masculine discourses circulating in the media. My doctoral research focuses specifically on online negotiations of ‘metrosexual’ masculinity in various contexts, include discussion forums, YouTube monologues, men’s online style magazines and visual images.  The methodology I am using draws on Ethnomethodology and Discursive Psychology with specific use of  Membership Categorisation Analysis.

The first study analysing text from a discussion forum is now complete, has been delivered at two international conferences and is currently in an academic journal review process.

Data has been collected for the second study. The analysis aims to look at how a specific text from an online men's magazine constructs 'metrosexuality' and how this is received by readers. At present I am writing the first draft.
